Substance Custom Filters
You can import directly your Substance Filters made with Substance Designer via the Substance Designer icon on the Layer Stack controls.
How to create a Substance Filter?
- Substance Alchemist Easily create collections of materials for 3D projects. Mix and tweak existing materials or make new ones from photographs and high-res scans.
- Substance is a complete suite with everything artists need to create 3D digital materials. Originally developed for the game and film industries, where it is the reference solution for 3D texturing, Substance is now expanding its presence to industries such as apparel and footwear, retail, transportation design, product design, and architecture.

Substance filters must be built in a specific way in Substance Designer to work correctly once imported in Substance Alchemist.
Painter: Use this for specific objects, to quickly paint in a variety of materials and decals. Designer: Makes general Materials which can then be used for tile able surfaces and/or in painter. Alchemist: Blends 2 materials? Bonus - Bitmap to Material does what Alchemist does but only photo's to seperate maps?
The input and output nodes of the filter must have the identifier or usage defined.
It is possible to use either the usage or the identifier (the usage has the priority).
Format
Export your filter as a Substance Archive file (.sbsar) Tenorshare icarefone 6 0 0 16 tractor tire.
You can expose a parameter of your filter and parametrize your filter. See how-to here

When creating a custom filter for Substance Alchemist, you need to add the following userdata in your Substance graph:
If in your package, you have one graph to process images (scan1 to scanX) and one graph to process material (PBR channels), Substance Alchemist is able to choose the correct graph depending where the filter is inserted in the layer stack.
On your 'image' graph, add the following userdata:
On your 'material' graph, add the following userdata:
Specific parameters
Specific parameters are globally managed by the application. It's a way to use global parameters of the application, the project, the layer stack in your custom filters.
Normal format
Control of the normal format over the application. Set to DirectX in Substance Alchemist
parameter identifier: normalformat, normal_format, $normalformat, $normal_format
Input Count
When you want to modify images (scan1 to scanX), you can use the number of images in the layer stack by using the Image Count parameter.
parameter identifier: input_count
parameter type: integer1
Material Input
If you want to display a material slot in the layer stack like the atlas scatter or the splatter:
Substance Painter Alchemist Movie
- Add a new set of Input nodes (Base Color, Normal, .. )
- All Input nodes of the background (bottom material in the layer stack) should be in the Group Material1
- All Input nodes of the first material you want to add on top should be in the Group Material2 and etcetera if you want several material slots.
- Add a material input parameter:
- parameter identifier: material_input
- parameter type: integer1
Workflow Type
If you want to display/hide some parameters based on the workflow of your project (PBR Metalic/Roughness or PBR Specular/Glossiness), you can the Workflow Type parameter
parameter identifier: workflow_type
parameter_type: integer1, dropdown list
options:
- 0: PBR Metallic/Roughness
- 1: PBR Specular/Glossiness

- For working in comfortable conditions we recommend a monitor with a resolution greater than 1 Mega Pixels and wider than 1280 pixels.
- Only versions 0.8.x and above have been notarized in order to run on MacOS 10.15 (Catalina).
- On CentOS 7.5 or older, the application may not start because of a library dependency issues (FT_Get_Font_Format error). We recommend updating the system or installing the following library.
- Remote Desktop connection is possible if an OpenGL 3.3 context is available. It will work on Nvidia Quadro but not on Nvidia GeForce because it provides only an OpenGL 1.4 context. If this is an issue, we recommend using alternative solutions such as VNC/Teamviewer.
Below is a list of the GPU models compatible with the application:
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900 and above
- NVIDIA Quadro M2000 and above
- AMD Radeon HD 7700, R7 260, R9 290 and above
- AMD Radeon Pro WX-2000 / Pro Duo and above
- AMD FirePro W5000 and above

Unsupported GPU configurations
- Mac:
- Only official Apple configurations are supported
- Linux:
- Mesa drivers on Linux are not supported
- Integrated GPUs are not supported. While the application may be able to run on GPUs such as Intel HD 6000 or IRis Pro 6200 and above many issues can arise.
Image to Material (AI Powered) and Delighter
The image Delighter is only available under the following configuration:
- Windows (version 8 minimum) and Linux
- GPU with more than 2GB of VRam
- GPU compatible with Nvidia CUDA version 10.0
Below is a list of the minimum GPU drivers version required for the application to run without issues. This list may be subject to changes as new versions release.
